The Nomadic people of Afghanistan weave Shepherd's rugs. The rugs are woven for themselves to help ease the harsh winters. Once they longer have use of these rugs, they sell them off to rug collectors, just like us! Every tribal rug is unique itself. There will never be two tribal rugs that are the same. Since these rugs are not woven for commercial use, they have quirks such as uneven sides or colour differences throughout the carpet, making them unique.

The founder of Najaf Rugs, Najaf Mazari, learned the intricate art of making rugs at the age of 12 in his hometown of Mazar-E-Sharif in Afghanistan. In 2001, he arrived in Australia as a refugee and built this business from the ground up six months after his arrival. His passion for rugs still shows in every single rug he sources.
