This handmade wool kilim comes from Maimana, a provincial capital in northern Afghanistan known for producing some of the country's most distinctive flatweave rugs. The weaving tradition in this region dates back centuries, with each kilim woven on horizontal ground looms using local wool and age-old techniques passed down through generations.
Maimana kilims are celebrated for their tightly woven construction, geometric tribal designs, and bold, earthy colour palettes. Their patterns are often rooted in the nomadic traditions of the region, reflecting a mix of Turkmen, Uzbek, and Pashtun influences.
This particular piece is a classic example, woven entirely from wool and fully reversible, thanks to its flatweave structure. It’s lightweight yet durable, making it ideal for high-traffic areas or layering in living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways.
We recommend using an underlay to help the kilim grip the floor and to extend its lifespan. As with all our pieces, this kilim is one-of-a-kind, once sold, it cannot be restocked.
Kindly Note: This rug is part of our upcoming container shipment, due to arrive in January, and is not currently available to view in our Prahran store. That said, if it’s the one, don’t wait. There’s only one of this piece, and once it sells, it’s gone for good. Place your order now and we’ll have it delivered to your door within 1 to 2 weeks, direct from our overseas warehouse.
