Pictorial

Birds, animals and trees of life wander across our pictorial rugs, small creatures and scenes placed by hand wherever the weaver chose to put them.

Vintage Persian Shiraz, Qashqai and Koliai rugs scatter stylised animals and birds through the field, often around a central medallion. Bakhtiari rugs use the garden panel design, dividing the field into compartments of cypress trees, flowering plants and birds. Ardabil rugs and runners, Hamadan rugs and Caucasian Kazak rugs add their own figures, and Afghan Baluch, Chobi and Pashm rugs show how Afghan weavers draw animals in a bolder, simpler line.

Pictorial rugs reward a closer look, and most people find something new each time. They're a lovely choice for a child's room, a study or a hallway where you pause, and they give a plainly furnished room an instant story.
