Transitional Oushak Rug
292 x 199 cm (9'7" x 6'7")
The Oushak weaving tradition originated in the town of Uşak in western Turkey in the 15th century, known for its soft, muted palette and elegant large-scale designs. Afghan weavers adopted those techniques and made them their own, tightening the knot structure in the process, which gives this rug greater detail and durability than its Turkish counterpart.
This rug is hand-knotted in Afghanistan from 100% hand-spun wool, pile and foundation both. The all-wool construction gives it a softness and flexibility that a cotton-based rug doesn't have, and because the wool retains its natural lanolin, the pile has a gentle sheen and a velvety feel underfoot. The low pile height keeps the surface refined and the design clear.
