Origin: Afghanistan
Construction: Hand-knotted
Afghan Oushak rugs are hand-knotted in Afghanistan, drawing from a weaving tradition that originated in 15th century Turkey. Afghan weavers adopted these techniques and adapted them, adding their own regional character while preserving the elegant aesthetic Oushaks are known for.
These rugs are woven entirely from 100% wool, both pile and foundation. The hand-spun wool creates the soft, muted palette that distinguishes Oushaks from bolder tribal styles. The pile sits lower than most hand-knotted rugs, giving them a softer, more velvety feel and a naturally relaxed appearance.
Each rug is genuinely one-of-a-kind, often taking months or even years to complete. This handmade rug has a personal character that mass-produced pieces simply can't replicate. Each rug connects to traditional craftspeople and an ancient art form that continues to evolve.
