Chobi rugs first emerged in Northern Afghanistan during the 1990s as a more refined expression of the region’s long-established weaving traditions. This Afghan Chobi rug takes its name from the Farsi word chob, meaning wood, which reflects the soft, timber-toned colour palette these rugs are known for. Each piece is woven entirely by hand, with skill passed down through generations of Afghan artisans.
This rug has been woven with a tightly packed knot structure, giving it a fine, durable finish and allowing for greater detail in the design. The wool is hand-spun using traditional methods and selected for its quality, softness, and natural strength. It holds onto its lanolin, which gives the rug a silky sheen and that smooth, velvety feel underfoot.
The low pile catches the light gently, giving the rug a soft glow and a sense of quiet movement as you walk past it. It’s a handmade Afghan rug that brings warmth, texture, and character to any space. Understated, elegant, and made to last for generations.
Kindly Note: This rug is part of our upcoming container shipment, due to arrive in January, and is not currently available to view in our Prahran store. That said, if it’s the one, don’t wait. There’s only one of this piece, and once it sells, it’s gone for good. Place your order now and we’ll have it delivered to your door within 1 to 2 weeks, direct from our overseas warehouse.
