Afghan Rugs

Hand-spun wool, patterns woven from memory and colour that shifts a little across every piece run through our Afghan rugs, kilims and runners.

Afghan Chobi and Balkh rugs have a smooth, low pile with faded florals and palmettes, the Balkh knotted finer. Maimana and Faryab kilims are flatwoven from Ghazni wool by women in northern Afghanistan, with stepped diamonds and bands passed from mother to daughter. Pashm rugs have a long, shaggy pile, Yekta rugs raise knotted motifs above a flat ground, and Kazakh and Super Kazakh rugs carry bold medallions. There are Afghan-made Oushak rugs in soft, muted tones, Biljik and Baluch rugs in deep reds, and our own Kohi designs.

This is a good place to mix textures. A shaggy Pashm softens a bedroom, a Chobi rug settles a living room and a kilim runner brightens a hallway or kitchen. Because the wool keeps its natural lanolin, these rugs wear well in busy family homes.
