Handwoven Kilims

Bold, flat and fully reversible, our kilims are woven by hand in patterns that pass from one generation of weavers to the next.

Most of our kilims are woven in Maimana and Faryab in northern Afghanistan, where women weave the patterns from memory rather than from a drawing. Diamonds, stepped motifs and bands are repeated by eye, so the spacing and colour shift a little across each piece and no two are quite the same. Faryab kilims have a tighter, finer weave that gives the pattern more detail. Alongside them you'll find vintage kilims from Iran, Turkey and the Caucasus, softened by years of use.

A kilim is wool through and through, so it is light, hard-wearing and reversible. It lies flat, so a door opens over it easily, it layers well over a larger rug and it's simple to move from room to room. If one side starts to show wear, turn it over.
