Vintage Turkish Pockets

Cut from vintage Turkish kilims and stitched into rows of pockets, these wall hangings bring colour to the wall and a home for the keys by the door.

Each hanging is made from sections of an older flatweave. Because a kilim has no pile and its pattern is woven straight into the wefts, the stripes, bands, stepped diamonds and chevrons stay crisp after the textile is cut and reworked. Stitched edges, hanging loops and tassels finish each piece, and any wear belongs to the kilim's earlier life. Most lean toward earthy browns, creams and soft pinks.

Hang one in an entry for letters, keys and sunglasses, in a study for notebooks and pens, or in a child's room for small finds and drawings. No two are alike, since each began as a different kilim, so choose the one whose colours suit the wall it's going on.
