Not everything we love is a rug, and this is where we keep the cushions, saddle bags, suzanis and wall hangings that bring handmade textiles into every corner.

Maimana and Faryab kilim cushions bring flatwoven Ghazni wool and bold geometry to a sofa, and Afghan Kohi cushions carry our own designs. Vintage Afghan saddle bags, some in the dense, braided Sumak weave, were once carried across a horse or camel between pastures. Uzbek suzanis in cotton and silk sit alongside vintage Turkish kilim pocket hangings, which turn old flatweave into useful wall storage, and the occasional patchwork textile.

These pieces are easy ways to add colour and history to a room: a saddle bag on a wall, a suzani over a bed, a pocket hanging in an entry or a pair of kilim cushions on a sofa. They also make thoughtful gifts.
