Embroidered by hand, stitch by stitch, our Uzbek suzanis cover cotton and silk in sun medallions, pomegranates and winding vines.

Suzani comes from the Persian word for needle, and these textiles were traditionally made by the women of a household for a bride's dowry, often in sections that were later joined. You'll find newly made cotton and silk suzanis, the silk with a soft sheen, plus vintage and antique silk pieces. The motifs carry meaning: pomegranates for abundance, sunbursts for protection and vines for growth. We also make cushions and lumbar cushions from sections of suzani.

A suzani isn't a floor rug. Hang one on a wall, lay it across the end of a bed or over a table, and the colour changes and uneven outlines of the stitching are easy to see up close. Cushions are a simple way to bring the embroidery onto a sofa or armchair.
