One of a kind

A Kuba is a rug to examine up close. Its finer weave and shorter pile make room for dense all-over motifs and multiple borders, turning the surface into a precise arrangement of stars, flowers and small geometric signs.

Vintage Caucasian Kuba Rug

About This Rug

Knotted by Hand in Caucasus Region

Kuba rugs come from the northeastern Caucasus and are known for fitting remarkable detail into a disciplined field. Compared with the broader drawing of a Kazak, the weave is typically finer and the pile shorter, allowing small motifs and complex borders to remain crisp.

The pattern may cover almost every part of the surface: repeated flowers, stars, palmettes, geometric devices and tiny protective symbols, often arranged in an all-over composition. Borders are rarely an afterthought. Several bands can run around the field, each carrying its own miniature sequence.

A vintage Kuba rewards close looking. From across the room it reads as an ordered whole, then the density begins to separate into dozens of individual decisions.

Najaf Rugs

Good to Know

Will the rug look the same in person as it does online?

We photograph every rug in natural light with minimal editing, so the colours you see are as true to life as possible. It’s something we take a lot of care with, and something our customers often comment on.

That said, colours can shift slightly depending on your screen or the lighting in your home. If you’d like extra photos or a video before purchasing, we’re always happy to help.

How long does delivery usually take?

Delivery times depend on your location.

For most Australian orders, delivery is quite quick. NSW and VIC typically arrive within 1–2 business days, the ACT within 2–3 business days, QLD and TAS within 2–4 business days, and WA and the NT within 3–6 business days.

Most international deliveries arrive within 1–4 weeks.

You can find more detailed timeframes on our Shipping & Delivery page: Shipping & Delivery.

What if the rug isn't quite right?

We want you to feel completely confident in your purchase. If something doesn’t feel right once you’ve seen it in your space, we’re here to help.

We accept returns or exchanges on full-priced items, meaning pieces that are not part of our clearance collection.

Returns must be initiated within 7 days of receiving your order, or within 7 days of purchase if bought in person.

As each rug is handmade and one of a kind, we keep this window short so that any returned piece can be offered again in the same condition.

Rugs must be returned in the same condition they were received.

For full details, please see our Returns & Exchanges page: Returns & Exchanges.

Can I see this rug in person before I decide?

Of course. We're at our Rowville warehouse most days and you're welcome to come in and browse.

Give us a call before you head over and we'll have this rug, and anything else you'd like to compare, laid out and ready for you.

Do I need an underlay?

We recommend one under every rug and kilim. A good underlay stops the rug moving, protects your floors and helps the rug wear evenly for longer.

Ask us and we'll suggest the right one for your floor and rug size.

How do I look after it?

Handmade wool rugs are easy to live with. Vacuum weekly on a low setting, moving with the pile and without the beater bar, and never vacuum the fringes. Rotate the rug every few months so it wears evenly, and blot spills straight away rather than rubbing.

Our Rug Care guide covers the rest.
