Vintage Persian Kerman Rug

About This Rug

Knotted by Hand in Iran

This rug comes from Kerman, a city that has been weaving since the 15th century and remains one of the most celebrated weaving centres in all of Persia. Sitting deep in the desert of southeastern Iran, its isolation kept its tradition intact for centuries, allowing craftspeople to develop their work without interruption.

Marco Polo encountered these rugs on his travels. Shah Abbas I gave them as tribute to the Ottoman Court. Kerman rugs have always occupied a different category. These are city rugs, made by professional weavers who might work on a single piece for years. The designs are ornate and considered, intricate floral fields, elaborate central medallions, curvilinear patterns that reward close attention.

No two are precisely the same. Hand-knotted from wool on a cotton foundation, with a low, flat pile that brings the detail of the design forward and wears exceptionally well over time.

Made to Be Lived On

Why a Najaf Rug

Entirely Handmade

Knotted or woven by hand, using techniques passed down through generations.

Natural Fibres

Made entirely from natural fibres, never synthetics, so it wears beautifully for decades.

One of a Kind

A singular piece that will never be made exactly again.

True to Life

Photographed in natural light with minimal editing, so the rug that arrives is the rug you chose.

Najaf Rugs

Good to Know

Will the rug look the same in person as it does online?

We photograph every rug in natural light with minimal editing, so the colours you see are as true to life as possible. It’s something we take a lot of care with, and something our customers often comment on.

That said, colours can shift slightly depending on your screen or the lighting in your home. If you’d like extra photos or a video before purchasing, we’re always happy to help.

How long does delivery usually take?

Delivery times depend on your location.

For most Australian orders, delivery is quite quick. NSW and VIC typically arrive within 1–2 business days, the ACT within 2–3 business days, QLD and TAS within 2–4 business days, and WA and the NT within 3–6 business days.

Most international deliveries arrive within 1–4 weeks.

You can find more detailed timeframes on our Shipping & Delivery page: Shipping & Delivery.

What if the rug isn't quite right?

We want you to feel completely confident in your purchase. If something doesn’t feel right once you’ve seen it in your space, we’re here to help.

We accept returns or exchanges on full-priced items, meaning pieces that are not part of our clearance collection.

Returns must be initiated within 7 days of receiving your order, or within 7 days of purchase if bought in person.

As each rug is handmade and one of a kind, we keep this window short so that any returned piece can be offered again in the same condition.

Rugs must be returned in the same condition they were received.

For full details, please see our Returns & Exchanges page: Returns & Exchanges.

Can I see this rug in person before I decide?

Of course. We're at our Rowville warehouse most days and you're welcome to come in and browse.

Give us a call before you head over and we'll have this rug, and anything else you'd like to compare, laid out and ready for you.

Do I need an underlay?

We recommend one under every rug and kilim. A good underlay stops the rug moving, protects your floors and helps the rug wear evenly for longer.

Ask us and we'll suggest the right one for your floor and rug size.

How do I look after it?

Handmade wool rugs are easy to live with. Vacuum weekly on a low setting, moving with the pile and without the beater bar, and never vacuum the fringes. Rotate the rug every few months so it wears evenly, and blot spills straight away rather than rubbing.

Our Rug Care guide covers the rest.
