Vintage Turkish Yoruk Rug

About This Rug

Knotted by Hand in Turkey

This rug comes from Turkey, one of the oldest and most varied rug weaving traditions in the world. Turkish weaving spans an enormous range, from the refined city workshops of Istanbul and Hereke to the bold tribal rugs of the Anatolian villages and nomadic Kurdish weavers working across the mountainous interior. What unites them is a directness of design and a structural solidity that is distinctly Turkish.

Turkish rugs are hand-knotted using the symmetric Turkish knot, which produces a particularly durable and dense pile. The designs tend toward the geometric and angular, reflecting both the weaving technique and the tribal traditions behind them. Medallions, repeating motifs, strong borders and bold field patterns are the common vocabulary, though the specific expression varies enormously by region and weaver.

Hand-knotted from wool on a wool or cotton foundation. As a vintage piece, the colours have already mellowed and the pile has settled into a character that only time and natural dyes together produce.

Najaf Rugs

Good to Know

Will the rug look the same in person as it does online?

We photograph every rug in natural light with minimal editing, so the colours you see are as true to life as possible. It’s something we take a lot of care with, and something our customers often comment on.

That said, colours can shift slightly depending on your screen or the lighting in your home. If you’d like extra photos or a video before purchasing, we’re always happy to help.

How long does delivery usually take?

Delivery times depend on your location.

For most Australian orders, delivery is quite quick. NSW and VIC typically arrive within 1–2 business days, the ACT within 2–3 business days, QLD and TAS within 2–4 business days, and WA and the NT within 3–6 business days.

Most international deliveries arrive within 1–4 weeks.

You can find more detailed timeframes on our Shipping & Delivery page: Shipping & Delivery.

What if the rug isn't quite right?

We want you to feel completely confident in your purchase. If something doesn’t feel right once you’ve seen it in your space, we’re here to help.

We accept returns or exchanges on full-priced items, meaning pieces that are not part of our clearance collection.

Returns must be initiated within 7 days of receiving your order, or within 7 days of purchase if bought in person.

As each rug is handmade and one of a kind, we keep this window short so that any returned piece can be offered again in the same condition.

Rugs must be returned in the same condition they were received.

For full details, please see our Returns & Exchanges page: Returns & Exchanges.

Can I see this rug in person before I decide?

Of course. We're at our Rowville warehouse most days and you're welcome to come in and browse.

Give us a call before you head over and we'll have this rug, and anything else you'd like to compare, laid out and ready for you.

Do I need an underlay?

We recommend one under every rug and kilim. A good underlay stops the rug moving, protects your floors and helps the rug wear evenly for longer.

Ask us and we'll suggest the right one for your floor and rug size.

How do I look after it?

Handmade wool rugs are easy to live with. Vacuum weekly on a low setting, moving with the pile and without the beater bar, and never vacuum the fringes. Rotate the rug every few months so it wears evenly, and blot spills straight away rather than rubbing.

Our Rug Care guide covers the rest.
