This rug comes from Iran's Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, where the Bakhtiari tribes have been weaving for generations. Once nomadic herders moving through the Zagros Mountains with their flocks, the Bakhtiari settled into villages across the region but kept their weaving traditions entirely intact.

The signature Bakhtiari design is the Khesti, a garden panel pattern where the field is divided into compartments, each containing its own motif. Cypress trees, flowering plants, birds, the tree of life. It is like looking at a Persian garden from above, sectioned into individual plots, each one a complete world.

The tree of life motif that runs through many Bakhtiari rugs has a story behind it. According to bazaar legend, a mother created the design roughly 700 years ago while weaving a bridal gift for her daughter, combining willow trees representing love and fertility with pomegranate fruits symbolising virtue and good health. The pattern stuck, and it has been passed down through generations of Bakhtiari weavers ever since.

Hand-knotted with wool pile on a cotton foundation. The wool comes from the tribes' own herds, and the quality varies between Bakhtiari groups depending on where their sheep grazed and how the wool was prepared, which is exactly why no two Bakhtiari rugs look or feel quite the same. As a vintage piece, the colours have already settled and the pile has only improved with age.

Hand-spun wool pile on a cotton foundation, made entirely from natural fibres.
Hand-knotted.

Vintage. Carefully washed and revitalised, with any required restoration completed by skilled hands, allowing the piece to begin a new chapter in excellent condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the rug look the same in person as it does online?

We photograph every rug in natural light with minimal editing, so the colours you see are as true to life as possible. It’s something we take a lot of care with, and something our customers often comment on.

That said, colours can shift slightly depending on your screen or the lighting in your home. If you’d like extra photos or a video before purchasing, we’re always happy to help.

How long does delivery usually take?

Delivery times depend on your location.

For most Australian orders, delivery is quite quick. NSW and VIC typically arrive within 1–2 business days, the ACT within 2–3 business days, QLD and TAS within 2–4 business days, and WA and the NT within 3–6 business days.

Most international deliveries arrive within 1–4 weeks.

Can I see this rug in person before I decide?

Of course. You’re very welcome to visit our Rowville warehouse to view rugs in person.

All visits are by appointment, but we’re very flexible with timing and happy to work around what suits you best. Feel free to give us a call or message us anytime and we’ll find a time that works.

What if the rug isn't quite right?

We want you to feel completely confident in your purchase. If something doesn’t feel right once you’ve seen it in your space, we’re here to help.
